A Preview of What to Expect from bloglinkr

Michael | Articles | Monday, December 18th, 2006

When Darren at Problogger revealed the topic for his latest Group Writing Project, I realized it was a perfect opportunity for us to expand a little on what you can expect from bloglinkr, by previewing how our service will work, and what it will do for bloggers. Plus, it gives us a chance to participate in the Group Writing Project…so, without further adieu, here is a brief preview of what bloglinkr is, and what we hope to do with it in 2007.

What is bloglinkr?

bloglinkr is a text-based advertising network like Google Adsense or Text Link Ads, but with one big difference…it’s only for content-rich blogs.

What does “content-rich” mean, exactly?

To us, content-rich blogs are blogs that are updated regularly (be it daily, weekly or even monthly) with original content created by the blog’s author or staff.

We’re not interested in splogs, or blogs that haven’t been updated in months.

We want readers of your blogs (assuming those of you reading this HAVE a blog, of course) to know when they see “Ads by bloglinkr.com” under a link of text ads that those ads will be offering them something (ideas, articles, reviews, opinions) not just trying to harvest their email address and personal information under the guise of giving them a “FREE XBOX 360!”.

How will bloglinkr work for publishers?

It’s very simple, and if you’ve used any other text based ad service, you’ll feel right at home using bloglinkr - no need to re-invent the wheel. You’ll be able to post ads of a variety of sizes on your site, and you’ll be paid for each click. You’ll also earn money from the publishers you refer to bloglinkr.

How will bloglinkr work for advertisers?

Again, making a text-based ad, and running a campaign won’t be terribly different from other text-based services you’ve used. The ads will be very inexpensive, allowing you to receive hundreds of clicks for every $25 dollars you spend advertising. We’re going to depend on your feedback to tweak this through the Beta, to ensure that you’re getting your money’s worth as an advertiser, and that you’re making enough as a publisher to justify having the ads on your site.

We don’t expect bloglinkr to be your only ad revenue either, and it is designed to work with every other ad service out there, even Google Adsense.

bloglinkr is based around XML, not javascript, so the ads will be search engine friendly, and should help you with your SEO.

We’re planning to launch the service in the first quarter of 2007, with a limited Beta starting as early as January. We’re going to need your feedback along the way to make this service something that you’ll not only want to use for your site, but that you’ll also want to tell others about…so please, feel free to ask questions or leave comments below.

bloglinkr sponsors Problogger Group Writing Project

Michael | News | Monday, December 18th, 2006

I’m proud to announce that bloglinkr is sponsoring Darren Rowse’s latest Problogger Group Writing Project. This GWP topic is Reviews and Predictions. There are over $2,000 dollars in prizes to be won, and 10 different sponsors.

For our part we’re offering $500 in advertising credit on bloglinkr (when we launch, of course) or $100 in cold hard cash (well..as cold and hard as PayPal gets…) - winner’s choice.

If you plan on participating in the Group Writing Project, be sure an read the official rules, and have fun! Winner’s are selected randomly, but you can’t win if you don’t participate!
Good luck to everyone!

Great bloglinkr write up

Michael | News | Monday, December 11th, 2006

We received a nice write up on Rooster’s Rail this weekend that I wanted to pass along to those of your subscribed to the RSS feed.

Here are a few excerpts:

I like this concept. Bloggers advertising their blog on other blogs with minimal outlay. Nice idea, not sure if it will take off or that it will have the returns that they say it will but it is a good idea that might be of interest to bloggers who don’t have the A-List on their side or the cash for a marketing plan.

One issue that the blogger brings up is something I want to address:

I would question their claims that you could:

… recieve hundreds of backlinks, clicks and visitors every month.”

There is no way that they could know this when the service has not even started yet. I think they could sell the idea to bloggers without unsubstantiated claims. They may well be using data from other services but I think that is a reach. It slumps a little into the “hard sell” with statements like that.

Maybe I should change “every month” to “for your money”.

We expect ads to cost between .05 and .20 cents per click. Going by those numbers the minimum amount of clicks you would receive for $25 would be 125, the most would be 500.

That’s why it’s worded that way…it’s not meant to be a hard sell, per say, as much as I was just trying to illustrate what kind of response you could expect for your investment.

I also want to stress that it is FREE to publish ads on your site. There is no cost involved with becoming a bloglinkr publisher. The only time that you’ll need to spend any money with us is if you want to advertise on other blogs.

Anyway, we’re still looking good for a January beta launch, and we’re eager to hear your input on what we’re trying to do…so feel free to contact us, at info(at) bloglinkr (dot) com or comment on any of the posts on this blog.

Beta Launching Soon!

Michael | News | Thursday, December 7th, 2006

Just a quick update for everyone, we’ve been hard at work on getting our advertising system in place over the last few weeks, and all that’s left are cosmetic changes before we’ll be inviting the first round of Beta Testers.

We hope to have the first Beta running in January, so be on the look out…and tell your friends!

Blog Take 2

Michael | News | Monday, November 20th, 2006

We had to do some house cleaning last night to get the ad servers up and running, and as a result, the previous blog entries are kap-put.

Ah well…
